L. Woods For Dan, Patrick & Steve Dahl

A recent internet posting mentioned the music album "Midlife Crisis" by Dan McGowan. If it sounds familiar, that's probably because there's a Dan McGowan who grew up in the area and he's now the president of L. Woods Tap & Pine Lodge/Big Bowl Chinese Express in Lincolnwood. When asked about it, Dan surprisingly replied, "Yes, it's me." (No, he's not having a real crisis.)

Dan then mentioned a music website where he writes: "Why did I record this record? In my late teens and early 20's, like many young kids, I was fortunate to be in several bands. I was always the singer, mainly because I didn't play an instrument and was brave enough to get in front of a crowd. We had a lot of fun versions of the band Freudian Dreams and Personal Possession. The guys were great. Bill Purcell-an amazing drummer. Ed Panahon-brilliant guitarist. Michael McDonald-guitarist and jokester. Greg Bianchi-crafty bassist and the list went on but the core always seemed to be Billy and I. We have all grown up and moved on but I still always wanted to get back into a studio and record one more time. I decided for my mid-life crisis, that I wouldn't buy a convertible Lotus, but record a CD of some of my favorite songs. With the help of long time best friend and colleague, Patrick Gallivan, I found Expo '76 and this CD is the result. Play Loud and Enjoy!"

The aforementioned Patrick Gallivan is his L. Woods/Big Bowl Chinese Express business partner and childhood friend, while the "Expo '76" group mentioned by Dan is local musicians Ralph Baumel, John Carpender, Kenn Goodman, and Dag Juhlin. Dag's formerly of The Steve Dahl Show, while he and the band are currently in - or have been in - the groups Goldstars, Michael McDermott, New Duncan Imperials, Poi Dog Pondering, The Crayfish, The Service, The Slugs, Tributosaurus, plus Kenn's the founder of the legendary local label Pravda Records.

The songs that Dan recorded with Expo '76 are a diverse group of classics. The album includes songs made famous by The Clash - Brand New Cadillac, Joe Jackson - I'm The Man, Jerry Lee Lewis - Rockin' My Life Away, Monkees - I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone, Elvis Presley - Burning Love, Lou Reed - Sweet Jane, Rolling Stones - Fool To Cry and also Miss You, Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut, and more.

Dan McGowan & "Midlife Crisis" is available at Amazon.com, CDbaby.com, iTunes.com, but not at L. Woods - at least not yet.

In other news at L. Woods, Dan & Patrick are having a birthday party for radio legend Steve Dahl on 11/19. Steve lives far south, but he's a semi-regular at L. Woods. The party is open to the public and for complete details visit the L. Woods or Steve Dahl website.
