Participatory Budgeting: Empowering Communities and Deepening Democracy

Joe Moore, alderman of Chicago’s 49th Ward, speaks November
10th at 10:30 a.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago, 7574 North
Lincoln Avenue in Skokie. His topic is, “Participatory Budgeting: Empowering
Communities and Deepening Democracy.” Alderman Moore will discuss the successes
and challenges of his innovative process that gives residents of his Rogers
Park neighborhood the power to decide by a binding popular vote how his annual
$1 million discretionary capital budget should be spent.
