Spring Fundraiser for Free Music Education

The Junior Board of The People's Music School, a non-profit organization that provides tuition-free music education to empower students, families, and communities in Chicago, will host their Inaugural Spring Prelude fundraiser on Thursday, April 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Rockit Bar and Grill, 22 W. Hubbard St. Tickets are $20 through Eventbrite and $25 at the door. The Spring Prelude Fundraiser features Andrew Finnigan from 101.9 THE MIX, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and a raffle. The fundraiser will benefit free music education programs for Chicago's underserved youth.

The People's Music School is the only completely tuition-free music school in Chicago, and the oldest in the United States. Founded in 1976 by Rita Simo, an accomplished pianist from the Dominican Republic who believed hat all children should have the access to music education, regardless of their family's socioeconomic status. Today they serve over 400 students through private lessons and group instruction at their Uptown Academy, as well as through the Youth Orchestra programs at two neighborhood Chicago Public School. Students also often have the opportunity to learn from established professional musicians and to attend the various concerts hosted by the school featuring Chicago's premier musicians.
