Bruce Levine's new book is at once a discerning history of the Civil War, a summary of the forces that made its conclusion all but inevitable, and a prescient analysis of its social aftermath. This workshop will draw on the riches that Levine has assembled. Then Jim will analyze the implications of that horrible conflict for the complex, often tortured American politics of the 21st century.
