The Salem Witchcraft Trials
At NSSC, Northfield Location:
Melvin Merzon, Attorney, College of Lake County Faculty
From early 1662 through mid 1663, the British New England
town of Salem was engulfed in a series of satanic activities that resulted in
the trial of 19 men and women for their participation in these 'darkly occult
arts.' Referred to by historians as the Salem Witchcraft Trials, the
proceedings that took place resulted in numerous death sentences and were among
the most corrupt to have occurred within the colonization of America. Attorney
Melvin Merzon recounts the 'mysterious and hysterical events' the witch hunt
brought about, and the infamous trials that followed.
