Trashy Fashion Show Featuring One-of-a-Kind Designs on Nov. 15

The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) will
present its seventh Trashy Fashion Show on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m.,
in recognition of the nationally-observed America Recycles Day. This
unique and inspirational community-based program will be presented at the
Chicago Marriott Northwest, 4800 Hoffman Blvd., in Hoffman Estates.

This year, 40 one-of-a-kind artistic designs will grace the
catwalk – all made from materials destined for the landfill or recycling cart
to include: used table clothes; sheets; bicycle tires; number bibs from races;
Halloween costumes; dryer sheets; bulletin board boarders; shopping bags;
news/wrapping/tissue papers; wine bottle nets; blanket; curtains and more. As
an extra element, each outfit will represent a cause in which the designer
would like to raise awareness politically, medically or environmentally.

This project encompasses
students and residents from the following SWANCC communities: Barrington,
Evanston, Glenview, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Skokie
and Winnetka, as well as design students from Niles North, Niles West and Fremd
High Schools – that encompass many SWANCC communities.

"SWANCC’s community-based project attracts designers of all
ages to celebrate REUSE by creating a unique outfit from materials potentially
destined for the landfill.  Each design makes a statement about being
respectful because resources are being used again through a creative medium”,
states Mary Allen, SWANCC's Recycling and Education Director.

There is no
cost to attend and reservations are not required – just come and bring a
friend, family member or youth group!  Doors will open to the public at
6:30 p.m.  For more information about the show, email info@swancc.org or call
(847) 724-9205. For other SWANCC programs visit swancc.org.
