Illinois' Fiscal Cliffhanger

Illinois' Fiscal Cliffhanger

The fight over the fiscal cliff, and the resulting “solution,” is a glaring example of Washington’s inability to get anything done. Unfortunately in Illinois on a local, state and federal level doing business as usual is indicative of our own unresolved fiscal cliffhanger. Unemployment, pension reform and so much more!

Instead of solving the problem, our elected officials from town halls, Springfield to Washington merely dealt with part of it -- and kicked the rest down the road. Let’s do what is best for our country and not what’s best for the established party to win reelection.

As an educator, technologist and mayoral candidate I have to look at our kids every day and seriously ponder what will happen to the life, property and liberty for all of us as a township, state and nation.

As an educator who has tragically lost several students to the inner city I implore all of you to initiate an open, civil and honest debate to address all the uncomfortable, unpopular and difficult challenges addressing our fiscal responsibilities. Schools are being readied to be closed for budgetary reasons.

We can’t let this happen again -- I am calling for all candidates, elected officials and policy makers from Washington, Springfield and cities from across this great country to stop fighting and start fixing.
