Mark: “Ah! Carnegie Mellon. Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon.”
Why is trivia so popular? Could it be all those years you’ve watched Alex Trebek on Jeopardy, screaming at the TV? Or maybe the dozens of hours-long Trivial Pursuit games you enjoyed at family gatherings? Perhaps it’s just a chance to prove to yourself that you really are “smarter than a fifth grader.” Whatever the reason – it’s great fun!
The format for a live trivia game varies based on the company the venue has hired. Whaddayaknow? Free Team Trivia starts with six individual questions, followed by the identification of 15 pictures. After another six individual questions, there’s a printed handout with 15 themed questions. After four current events questions, there are two “final questions” on which you can either win or lose the points you wager.
Matthew: Current Events – Spell the winning word in the recent Scripps Spelling Bee.
Linda: “Oh! I think it was ... the word for a Yiddish dumpling ...”
Mark: “Yes – and there was some debate in the media over the ‘true’ spelling!”
Jerry: “We better spell it the way the kid spelled it to win ... “
Rob: “I remember it exactly ... it was K-N-A-I-D-E-L”
