C.A.R.E. To Increase Adoption Fees In September

EVANSTON, Ill. (Aug. 1, 2013) Animal adoption fees at Community Animal Rescue Effort, Evanston, Ill., which have remained the same for the past 10 years, will be raised on Sept. 1, 2013. The new fee will be $150 per healthy dog, cat, puppy or kitten, up from the previous long-time fee of $100 per animal.

C.A.R.E. covers medical fees to ready all dogs and cats for their new homes. The Evanston adoption organization pays its local vet $160 to ready healthy dogs, and $150 to ready healthy cats. The medical care includes distemper and rabies shots, fecal tests, and FeLV/Fiv or heartworm tests. All animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped. However, in recent years, C.A.R.E. has taken in animals with multiple medical issues, costing the volunteer-run organization considerably more.

“Our last fee increase was back in 2003,” says C.A.R.E. President Linda Gelb. “We’ve absorbed as much of the rising medical costs as possible until now. Our partner, McCormick Animal Hospital, has kept its fees for shelter animals very reasonable. But everyone’s costs have risen. We truly appreciate McCormick’s assistance in readying C.A.R.E. animals for adoption.”
