Heidi is an affectionate, gentle German Shepherd who, when she arrived at C.A.R.E., was so emaciated she could barely able to lift her head. Fast-forward two months. Thanks to mega-TLC from C.A.R.E. volunteers, Heidi's weight is approaching normal, her coat is filling in and she's eager to hang out with people and chase tennis balls.
"My greatest pleasure is to hang out with people and relax," says Heidi. "My second greatest pleasure is chasing and retrieving tennis balls for you. I arrived at the shelter neglected and starved - but that challenging period of my life has only strengthened my kind heart. I still have a few things to learn about life, but I˙m not overly demanding. I just want a family and place to call my own."

- German Shepherd, 2 years old, Spayed female
- ASPCA Canine-ality™ Assessment rating: Orange / Wallflower
- Large size/weighs 50 lbs., and still needs to gain at least 20 lbs.
- No dogs (not tolerant and really prefers people).
- Dog Obedience Group required.
- Children 10 and up.
- No cats or small animals.
- Housebreaking: Needs serious housetraining.
- Heidi is spayed, microchipped and has had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Heidi and speak to an adoption counselor. Adoption hours are Monday through Thursday, 6-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon-3:30 p.m.
