The Arts in Lincolnwood Need Mayor Jerry Turry

Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra Music Director endorses Mayor Jerry Turry for third term as Village President

Dear Lincolnwood Community,

As Music Director of the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra, I have worked closely with the Village since 1990.  Over the last 8 years we have been fortunate to have a Mayor who appreciates the role the fine arts play in our lives.  Whether bringing our community together to celebrate, creating educational opportunities, or providing musical programming for seniors, Jerry Turry has been there for our orchestra and all of Lincolnwood.  He is not just a politician, he is a humanitarian, and I support him with great enthusiasm for a third term as Village President.

Together, we have organized a number of musical programs in the Village.  Mayor Turry was the driving force behind the Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert in 2006.  He was responsible for initiating the annual summer orchestral concert at Lincolnwood Place, which has featured both the LCO and the Lincolnwood Youth Strings.  His passion for education facilitated collaborative programming with School District 74.  In 2011, his vision for integrating our orchestra into the life of the community led to the 100th Anniversary of the Village of Lincolnwood Concert.  If you were at any of these programs you already know of his commitment to the arts.

Lincolnwood has gone through many changes since I graduated from Lincoln Hall in 1975.  We have become a diverse community, which is both a strength and a challenge.  Mayor Turry appreciates the value of cultural exchange, and has acknowledged with elegance our outreach to the Korean, Bulgarian, Bosnian, Czech communities.  Jerry Turry has been there for our orchestra-in performances from Lincolnwood to Chicago to Lake Forest.

Thanks to the leadership of Mayor Turry, In 2007 Lincolnwood received the distinction of an “Arts Friendly Community” by the Illinois Arts Alliance.  We now have a new amphitheater in Centennial Park, which will benefit this community for years to come.  Let’s hope that Lincolnwood will continue to place a priority on culture and music.  It speaks to the quality of life in our community, and there has been no better advocate for this than Jerry Turry.
