Dave Zeman is "The Man" for "A Piece of the Game"

Baseball historian Dave Zeman of AU Sports will be joining AU Sports owner Scott Beatty on "A Piece of the Game," a new show about sports memorabilia.

Dave Zeman knows his baseball.  Modesty would probably prohibit him from stating his baseball acumen, but soon it will be on display for all to see as part of A Piece of the Game, a forthcoming television show.

A Piece of the Game will have people bringing their Chicago sports memorabilia to the show for value determination.  As I previously wrote in The Small Screen is Calling Scott Beatty, the show will feature local business owner Scott Beatty of AU Sports as one of the appraisers.

It has been announced that Dave, a longtime employee of AU Sports, will be providing trivia bits and interesting facts on the show.  Just like Scott was a great choice as an appraiser, Dave will certainly hit a home run in his role for the show.  Together, they are like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, a legendary combo.

Dave definitely has a wealth of knowledge.  He also happens to be a member of SABR (Society for American Baseball Research).  That knowledge has already been shown in print, as Dave has co-authored two books: The Baseball Rookies Encyclopedia and Great Baseball Feats, Facts & Firsts.  I own both books and have spent countless hours absorbing each.

I have known Dave for years and he is a great choice to be the trivia expert or historian for the show.  Dave will bring a unique element to the show.  On similar shows, a factoid might appear on the screen, but it was obviously researched and inserted post-production.  Dave will bring the human element to this concept.

If you have any doubts about his knowledge, I challenge anyone to stop in at AU Sports and try to stump him.  I have seen him run roughshod over the various participants (including me) in many trivia contests over the years.  In the accompanying interview, I tossed a few unrehearsed trivia questions at Dave and he nailed each one with ease.

Dave is the real deal and all will see that when A Piece of the Game debuts on March 16 on WGN.  Taping for that first show is this Monday, March 4 at Harry Caray’s at Navy Pier.  For more information, you can check out APieceoftheGame.tv.
