Out"rage"ous Wrestling Fun

POWW Entertainment put on a great show in Melrose Park and evryone involved showed their top level of dedication and passion.

On Saturday night I attended POWW (Purely Obsessed Wrestling World) Entertainment’s Wrestle Rage X in Melrose Park.  This is POWW’s big annual event and they put on a fantastic show.

The Melrose Park Civic Center was packed with a standing room only crowd I would estimate at 400+.  The crowd arrived early for a meet-and-greet with five wrestling legends, including Billy Gunn, Hardcore Bob Holly, Val Venis, Chavo Guerrero and Armando Estrada.  Despite the long line and limited time, these guys gave it their all to make it a great experience for the fans.

The wrestling matches were the culmination of some feuds and the beginning of others, but every match kept the crowd fired up.  Not one match seemed like filler and several could have easily been main event material.

The crowd was incredibly into everything.  One match pitted current champ “The Ego” Robert Anthony (a relative POWW newcomer and a “villain”) defending against Stonewall (a young, but veteran POWW villain) and GQ (a fan favorite).  I heard loud chants for all three at times and often fans switched sides back and forth.  That is how good this match was.

Heel wrestler Sexy KC drew hatred from the crowd with disparaging words about the late Randy Savage (a native Chicago area legend).  KC was rewarded with a chokeslame that shook the ring compliments of the new POWW Hall of Famer Dave Storm, who returned to action.

If this wasn’t enough, a referee was named Commissioner and then he turned heel and lead a faction of POWW bad guys against the guest wrestling legends.  Where that will lead is anyone’s guess, but it is sure to get more interesting as the story develops.

There were more great matches and I would like to write about all of them and name every wrestler, but space prohibits that.  Besides, this isn’t a recap of the results.  This is about a company lead by Jim Blaze, who has such a passion.  It is about every POWW worker, from Ma Blaze to the champ, “the Lost Soul” Chris Cairo) who gives it their all and who cares about every fan.

I saw and talked to some of the wrestlers after the show.  I could see how drained they were, but I could also see how pumped they were because they knew that they put on a show to remember.

You don’t see this type of dedication too often and I feel it should be applauded.  Actually, I was applauding it all night long.  Their next show is December 15 in Fox Lake.  I guarantee, if you go, you will be applauding them, too.
