Paying Tribute to Tributasaurus at Lincolnwood Fest

I had a great time at Lincolnwood Fest when, for the first time, I enjoyed the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, thanks to Tributosaurus.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young never sounded better.  That is because it was actually Tributosaurus, who had morphed into CSNY to the delight of the crowd at Lincolnwood Fest.

Tributosaurus is not your typical tribute or cover band.  They bill themselves as “the Jurassic beast of multiple musical faces”, becoming a different music act every month.  I have seen them a few times, but never as a band that I never really liked.

My music elitist friends accuse me of blasphemy for my ambivalence towards CSNY.  Perhaps I don’t “know” music as well as they do, but I know what I enjoy and I don’t enjoy CSNY or at least I didn’t enjoy them until Friday.

So there I sat on the very softball field where I belted out so many homers (okay, squeaked out many singles), having a great time as Tributosaurus belted out CSNY’s big hits.  I enjoyed myself almost as much as I would have belting out that softball home run.

Lead singer Matt Spiegel formed Tributosaurus in 2002 and they have been performing around the Chicago area ever since.  The smooth-voiced Spiegel also co-hosts “The McNeil and Spiegel Show” on the Score sports radio.  I believe it Spiegel's dulcit tones (as opposed to CSNY's usual sound) made their songs better.

There are still two more days of Lincolnwood Fest and I will be there both days.  If I can sit and enjoy an evening of CSNY, who knows what else might happen and I plan on finding out!

Held at Proesel Park, Lincolnwood Fest also has rides, tasty local food and games.  I can’t promise you will have as much fun as I did because of Tributosaurus, but I promise there is something there for everyone.
