Well-Liked Former Skokie Official Passes Away

Pat Hanley succumbed after being diagnosed with ALS.


Patrick Hanley, a former Village of Skokie corporation counsel (village attorney) has passed away, according to Haben Funeral Home. He was 58, and died Nov. 20 from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS.

Hanley and his wife Lisa realized he had a medical challenge last year while pursuing motorcycle riding, one of their hobbies, according to the Skokie Review. When he was diagnosed with ALS, friend Randy Miles, owner of the Village Inn, organized an Independent Merchants of Downtown Skokie fundraiser for the ALS cause, the paper said.

A celebration of life will be held for Hanley on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. at 8851 N. Skokie Boulevard, Skokie, according to Haben. There will be no visitation.

The funeral home also published the following information:

Beloved husband of Lisa, nee Schwartz; dear stepfather of Tyler and Hallie Kobylski; loving son of Barbara and the late Dennis Hanley; dearest brother of Sean (Kathy) and the late Michael; fond son-in-law of Suzanne and the late Honorable Harvey Schwartz; brother-in-law of David Schwartz and Karyn Boraiko; uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
