Harvey Schwartz, Famed As Skokie Attorney Who Fought Neo-Nazis, Dies

Schwartz set many precedents when he served as Skokie's village attorney, but he is best known for the 1978 challenge.

Harvey Schwartz, whose 22 years as Skokie's village attorney were highlighted by his 1977-78 fight to thwart neo-Nazis who wanted to lead a march through Skokie, has died, the Skokie Review reported.

Schwartz also served as a Cook County judge, and played a key role in the early development of Skokie's Caucus Party, which has dominated elections since the mid-1960s.

A service was held for Schartz Friday.
