Lincolnwood SD74 holds next Board of Education Meeting on Rosh Hashanah

In a recent exchange of emails, Dr. Joe Bailey, superintendent and the SD74 Board of Education has made it clear they will continue to hold their meeting on September 5, 2013, Rosh Hashanah.  Dr. Bailey wrote "unfortunately, the regularly scheduled BOE meeting on September 5, 2013, will not be canceled and rescheduled. This is due to various issues relative to personal schedules of BOE members/timing/location availability/etc.."

The Lincolnwood community should be aware during the September meeting the Board of Education will vote on the annual budget and hold a public meeting for the same topic.  As tax payers, all community members should have the opportunity to address the BOE and should not be excluded because of their religious or cultural practices.

Lincolnwood is a diverse, multicultural community and we need to respect each resident's culture and religion.  Dr. Bailey and the BOE's decision to move forward with the meeting is offensive to the Jewish Community; it is also disrespectful to our district Jewish educators and staff.

The District's failure to consult calendars is an insult to the community. Furthermore their failure to move the meeting shows utter disdain for a portion of the community that has been so active and supportive of the district.

Please express your dissatisfaction with the District's decision to Dr. Joe Bailey @ jbailey@sd74.org and the Board of Education @ BOE@sd74.org.
