Section 8. Why make it mandatory.

I feel that it is not a good thing that Skokie wants to make it mandatory that Landlords accept section 8 tennants. Already Skokie on the whole has changed dramatically since Section 8 people have moved in. Skokie was a beautiful quiet town where people felt safe even walking the street at 10pm or 4am with their dog. I felt safe 15 years ago. I raised my child in Skokie who went to Niles North when it was the highest end of schools. Now it is not. Now I would not raise my child here if I did it over again.
The crime rate has gone up. People are not as friendly as they were and are wary of strangers. Old Orchard is a mecca of perfection in the middle of a slum at this point. Eventually it also will go down hill and what will Skokie have left.

If people on section 8 cared about their community and nurtured it instead of forming gangs and being violent it would be a different story. The cleanliness of the area has gone down also. Trash all over. Beer bottles, liquor bottles, wrappers from food. No one cares.

So now the Government of Skokie wants landlords to have to let people in their buildings that they do not want to? Why?
