Turning Point Hosts 13th Annual Town Hall Meeting February 21st at Skokie Public Library

Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center hosts its 13th annual Town Hall Meeting on mental health care Friday, Feb. 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Skokie Public Library, located at 5215 Oakton Street. A panel of elected officials and local experts will discuss the impact of the current political and economic climate on mental health services. The Town Hall meeting is open to the public. Admission is free and reservations are not required. For more information visit www.tpoint.org.

 

Turning Point CEO Ann Fisher Raney said, “Each year at our Town Hall Meeting, we welcome more than 100 community members who are avidly interested in understanding the complexities of mental health funding, service provisions, and public education. This forum provides lawmakers and residents with a unique opportunity to strengthen our collective capacity to respond to challenges in providing mental health services.”

Invited panelists include: U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky; U.S. Senators Richard Durbin; and Mark Kirk; Illinois State Senators Ira Silverstein and Daniel Biss; and Illinois State Representatives Lou Lang, Robyn Gabel, and Laura Fine.

 

Invited local experts include Carolyn Anthony, director of Skokie Public Library; Nancy Carstedt, executive director of NAMI-Cook County North Suburban; Catherine Counard, director of Skokie Board of Health; Lee Francis, president and CEO of Erie Family Health Center; Jackie Grossman, homesharing coordinator of Interfaith Housing; Marvin Lindsey, public policy social worker of Community Behavioral Healthcare Association of Illinois; Kristen Murtos, president of Skokie Hospital at NorthShore University HealthSystem; Lee Tamraz, Niles Township supervisor; and Dan Wasmer, regional director of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
