UPDATE: Another Child Abduction Attempt in Skokie

Skokie has seen a child abduction attempt every week in September.

Skokie police reported another abduction attempt Wednesday, near the 10000 block of Bronx Avenue around 7 a.m. According to police, the man waved to a 13-year-old girl and asked her to come with him. Instead, the girl ran to a bus stop near Lavergne Avenue and Old Orchard Road. The suspect then fled.

According to police, this incident isn't related to any of the previous three. The suspect was described as a 60-70 year-old white male, with heavy face wrinkles and wearing round-shaped glasses and a blue shirt with red suspenders. He was driving an light blue four-door vehicle.

A quick search of the Illinois Sex Offender website shows Skokie has 12 registered offenders living in the 60076 and 60077 ZIP code areas.

Skokie police reported another attempted child abduction Wednesday, making it the third attempt this month.

According to police, a man grabbed the arm of a 15-year-old girl when she refused to get into a car with him. Fortunately, the teenager, who was heading to catch a bus, was able to get away unharmed.

The incident occurred about 7 a.m. near the 9100 block of Skokie Boulevard on Tuesday. The girl's parents did not report the incident until later that evening.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40-50 years old, about 6 feet tall with a heavy build and curly, short black hair. Police said he was wearing a T-shirt with President Barack Obama on the front. The suspect was also described to have "star tattoos" on his inner forearm, according to police.

A quick search of the Illinois Sex Offender website shows Skokie has 12 registered offenders living in the 60076 and 60077 ZIP code areas.

Skokie police want residents to be on alert after two attempted child abduction incidents since last week.

Skokie police said the incidents do not appear to be related.

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old girl told police that a SUV driver approached her in the 4400 block of Birchwood Avenue while she walked home from East Prairie School.

The driver, described as a white male between 20 and 25 years old, opened the passenger window and asked the teenager, "Do you need a ride?" When the girl did not did not answer, he then shouted for the student to "get into the car." The man fled west on Birchwood after the girl yelled for her mother, according to the police report.

That evening, the girl saw the same SUV as it headed east in the 4200 block of Howard Street. The two passed about 6 p.m. without incident, police reported.

The vehicle is as a newer black four-door SUV of unknown make and model, authorities said.

Police said the incident marks the second attempted child abduction under similar circumstances in Skokie.

A McCracken Middle School student was approached in the 4000 block of Oakton Street on the afternoon of Sept. 8 while she headed home from school. The suspect was described as a white male in his early 30s with a receding hairline. The vehicle was described as a gray four-door of unknown make and model, according to police.

The following day, Skokie School District 73.5 sent a letter to parents informing them of the situation. It stated that teachers were reviewing the school's safety policy and that Skokie police were investigating the incident.
