Blotter: Marijuana Cache; Bogus $50 Bill

Big time bust

After being contacted by the Cook County Sheriffs Department on July 28, Skokie police were informed that Jay Zimmerman, 69, of the 6800 block of Latrobe, was involved in growing marijuana plants in his home. Cook County officers and Skokie police conducted a traffic stop of Zimmerman on the 5200 block of Coyle. After finding drug paraphernalia in Zimmerman's car, police arrested him and later searched his home. Upon arrival, officers found about 60 marijuana tree plants, a Smith & Wesson revolver, Glock 30 semi-automatic handgun and  an AK-47-style assault rifle.

Old Navy shoplifting

Dalia Acosta, 29, of the 1500 block of North Lockwood in Chicago, and April Thomas, 30, of the 1200 block of Circle Avenue in Forest Park, were arrested July 31 outside the Old Navy at 9435 Skokie Blvd. Both suspects stole several articles of clothing valued at $196.50 from the store. The suspects were placed under arrest for retail theft and transported to the police station for processing.

Radio stolen from car

Police were dispatched to the 3400 block of Greenleaf to investigate the burglary of a motor vehicle. A man told police a radio was stolen from his black '98 Honda Civic between 6:30 p.m.  and 10 p.m.

Counterfeit $50 bill

On July 31, three black men between the ages of 21 and 25 approached the NYS Sunglasses Collection Kiosk at Old Orchard Mall. When one of the individuals tried purchasing a pair of sunglasses with a $50 bill, the sales clerk tested the bill with a special marker and realized it was counterfeit. The suspects then paid with an authentic $20 bill and left. Police were unable to locate the suspects but seized the counterfeit bill.
