Blotter: Scams Via Skype and eBay

Residential Burglary

A victim reported that four unknown person(s) broke into his shed on the 7400 block of Kedvale, on June 11 at 10 p.m. Nothing was reported stolen.    

Deceptive Practices

A victim reported that an unknown person(s) contacted her via "Skype" and told her that her grandson needed money to get out of jail.  The victim then wired $2,800 to the unknown person(s) before discovering that this was a scam.

A victim reported that an unknown person posted a vehicle for sale on the internet. The victim wired the seller an out of state payment of $1,920.00, expecting the vehicle to be delivered. The victim then soon discovered that there was never any vehicle for sale.

A victim reported that he had purchased several discounted gift cards on Ebay and later found that the cards had a zero balance. It was also discovered that the cards were originally purchased using a stolen credit card before being resold to the victim.  

Burglary from Motor Vehicle

A victim reported that her handbag, Apple MacBook Pro and Apple Shuffle were stolen from the trunk of her parked and locked vehicle at 4937 Old Orchard Center, on June 12 between 12 and 3 p.m.

Arrests

Jaylen O. White, 19, of Skokie, was arrested on a warrant for possession of cannabis on June 11.

Matthew B. Solovastru, 23, of Morton Grove, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Darntriele J. Singleton, 18, of Evanston, was  arrested for retail theft.
