Burning Cigarette Leads to Woman’s 61st Arrest

The alleged suspect had various drugs in her possession as well as an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

And yet another reason to quit smoking: A woman stopped for throwing out a burning cigarette from her vehicle was arrested for the 61st time on Nov. 26.

Cynthia M. Kopp, 39, of the 4600 block of Kenton Avenue, was charged with a variety of charges, including possession of an unlawful drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and depositing injurious material (the lit cigarette) on a roadway.

Police stopped Kopp after they witnessed her throw a cigarette out the window of her vehicle while she waited on a red light at the intersection of Dempster Street and Skokie Boulevard around 5 p.m.

During the stop, police ran a background check on Kopp and realized she had an extensive criminal history, including 60 arrests, 24 of which were for dangerous drugs. Kopp also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Fulton County, the report noted.

Police gained permission from Kopp to search the vehicle and allegedly found an orange pill bottle containing various pills, such as Vicodin, muscle relaxers and vitamin supplements, according to police. Officers also conducted a pat down search on Kopp at the station and allegedly found a glass-smoking pipe as well as two plastic bags containing cocaine.

According to police, Kopp said the pills weren’t hers and that she was a recovering drug user. She added that she used the glass pipe to ingest cocaine in the past and hadn’t used the white powdery substance for two months.

Kopp is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7 at 9 a.m.

Can't be 4600 unless she lives in Chicago. Kenton is a north south street. The number should be at least7600

Thanks for the comment John! But the woman isn't from Skokie, she is from the 4600 block of Kenton Avenue.
