Chicago 'Chop Shop' has Skokie Connection

Tip leads police to seize more than 29 autos in warehouse bust.

Police seized more than 29 vehicles as two men were charged with motor vehicle theft last Friday.  

Mirza Meseljevic, 23, of the 8600 block of Niles Center Road in Skokie, and Samel Meseljevic, 34, of Lincolnwood, were arrested after police received a tip that the duo was transporting a stolen auto to a warehouse in the 5800 block of Bloomingdale Avenue in Chicago, according to a press release from the Chicago Police Department.

The warehouse had more than 29 stolen vehicles, as well as various car parts, police said. Officers suspect the building may have been a “chop shop,” a place where criminals take stolen autos and remove valuable parts for resell.

The Meseljevics court date is this Monday at the Cook County Courthouse.
