Cops: Teens Made 'Bomb' With Toilet Cleaner

Two local teens were charged with possession of an explosive device after they made 'bombs' out of a toilet cleaning product and foil paper, police said.

Two teens were charged with disorderly conduct and possession of an explosive device after they used toilet cleaner and foil paper to create a "bomb" on July 28, police said.

Officers responded to an arson complaint in the 8300 block of Christiana Avenue around 4:18 p.m. When they arrived they located several teens playing outside. One of the suspects told police "he made a MacGyver [type] bomb and threw it across the street," the police report states.

Meanwhile, a witness told police she was awoken by "a loud noise" during an afternoon nap. After hearing the explosion, the woman went outside and saw a teenager "throw a bomb at another boy across the street," the police report states.

When police spoke to the teenagers they told them they did not know "making a bomb was a big deal," the report states. The two also told police that they poured a toilet cleaner called "The Works" into an empty plastic bottle containing foil paper; the combination ultimately led to the explosion, the report states.

The two juveniles were charged and later released to their parents. No injuries were reported.
