Craigslist Scammers Rob Skokie Man of $5,000

A 29-year-old Skokie man was robbed at knifepoint after he met two men in Evanston, believing he was going to buy a car that had been advertised on Craigslist.

A 29-year-old Skokie man was robbed at knifepoint Tuesday after he went to Evanston believing he was going to buy a car that had been listed on Craigslist.

When he arrived in the 900 block of Monroe Street around 5:30 p.m., two men with a knife stole the $5,000 he was carrying in cash, according to police.    

Evanston police detectives are investigating the incident.
