Crowbar Attack Sends Man to Hospital

Irate motorist follows driver to seek apology, but ends up surrounded by a hostile group.

A road rage incident left a man hospitalized after he was attacked by a group on Aug. 25.

It  that has occurred in less than a month in Skokie.

According to police reports, a man flagged officers down requesting medical attention near the 8000 block of Kilpatrick Avenue. He had several facial lacerations and told police he was recently struck in the head with a metal crowbar during an encounter with a hostile mob.

The man later told police that he had left his girlfriend’s house in the 8000 block of Kilpatrick Avenue around 11 p.m. when a driver almost struck his vehicle near Skokie Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue. While in the right lane, the driver, described as a male of Assyrian descent, entered the victim’s lane and caused him to lose control of his vehicle, according to the report.

An argument ensued, during which the driver threatened to “kill your family,” the man told police. The victim followed the driver seeking an apology and ultimately ended up near an alley close to the 7900 block of Kolmar Avenue, where both vehicles stopped.

The man told police that before he could put his vehicle into park five or six males surrounded his vehicle. One male approached the driver’s side door and struck the man in the face with the crowbar, according to the report.

The suspects then fled and the victim drove back to his girlfriend’s Kilpatrick Avenue apartment, where he spotted the police patrol car.

The victim, whose name is being withheld, was transported about 12 a.m. to Skokie Hospital, where 14 stitches were required to close a gash on the right side of the face.

Police sent out a radio dispatch to neighboring Lincolnwood police with the description of the assailant. However, both departments were unable to locate the vehicle or person who matched the descriptions given by the victim.

Last month, a man was hospitalized after a parking dispute outside of Betty and Nick's Hair Salon along Oakton Street. five women were involved in a similar traffic incident, but no one required hospitalization.
