Family of Carter Vo Robbed of State Grant

Due to a mistyped address on the grant check, someone else received and cashed the check, CBS Local reports.

The family of Carter Vo, who was killed last year while riding his bike in Skokie, have been robbed of their state grant--due to a mistyped address on the state grant check sent to the family to help cover Vo’s funeral costs, someone else received and cashed the $4,000 check, CBS Local reported.

State officials say the wrong address was already in their system because someone at the same apartment as the Vos had applied for a grant but was denied. The family say they plan to file a police report and pursue criminal charges, the website reported.

In May 2012, Skokie resident Hanin Goma caused a three-car accident that ultimately took the life of 9-year-old. Goma was sentenced to five years in prison in March.
