Former Skokie Cop Hart Appears In Court Wednesday

He is likely to be arraigned at his next court appearance in early December. He has resigned from the police force.

In a case that has rocked Skokie for its allegations of police brutality, former Skokie Police Officer Michael Hart appeared in a courtroom at the George Leighton Courthouse in Chicago, also known as the 26th and California Cook County Criminal Courthouse, Wednesday.

A judge set an arraignment date for Dec. 6, according to the Skokie Review, and his lawyer, Jed Stone, expects he will plead not guilty.

Hart resigned last week after the village of Skokie sought to fire him for a March 10 incident. A surveillance video showed him forcefully shoving a woman, Cassandra Feuerstein, who was in police custody at the Skokie Police Station. The video shows her flying face-first into a cement bench, and then the woman crying out as she begins bleeding considerably.

The incident came to light in mid-October, when Feuerstein's attorney filed a lawsuit. It said Feuerstein was severely injured, has required surgeries and a titanium plate to hold facial bones together, and suffers lasting pain and altered appearance because of the incident.
