Friday Blotter: $26,000 Allegedly Goes Missing From Bank

Vehicle roof damaged

A car parked in the 4100 block of Greenwood Avenue was reported vandalized on July 5. According to the report, force was used to push in the hood of a Dodge sedan. When police arrived, they noticed several shoe marks on the roof of the car.

A man reported having more than $26,000 missing after he tried opening an account with Cole Taylor Bank, 4400 Oakton St., on July 7. The man told police that he withdrew $26,054.26 from North Shore Community Bank, 7800 Lincoln Ave., in the form of cashiers checks. He said he then tried opening an account with Cole Taylor Bank, which told him paperwork would be mailed to him after his cashier check was taken.

It was later discovered that the checks were deposited at a Bank of America branch under a different name. When police questioned Cole Taylor Bank officials, they said no person matching the description provided helped out the victim.

Police are now awaiting more information from Bank of America.

Stolen bicycle

A bike left unattended in backyard in the 4900 block of Kirk Street was reported stolen on July 6. The bicycle was valued at $230.

A bike valued at $200 was reported stolen after it was left locked near the CTA's Skokie Swift station on July 6.

Oakton pool theft

A cell phone left unattended at the Oakton Community Center's pool, 4655 Oakton St., was reported stolen on July 6. The victim also reported having his wallet, $4 and credit card taken.
