Friday Blotter: Home Invasion, Mace on Pace Bus

Home invasion

Police responded to a home invasion in the 8800 block of Lavergne Avenue on Jan. 29. According to the report, a resident was awoken by a loud banging noise while he was sleeping. When he woke up, he saw a man about 18-years-of-age standing through the rear door. The offender told the victim that he was looking for another person who owed him money, police said. He then fled the scene. No arrests were made.

A child at Walker School, 3601 Church St., was slapped in the face by another student during gym class on Jan. 28.

Mace on Pace bus

A man was Maced in the face by another passenger while on a Pace bus in the 4000 block of Church Street on Jan. 29.

Burglary

A Toshiba laptop was reported stolen from a home in the 8900 block of Samoset on Jan. 28. The offender(s) gained entry through a bathroom window.

Several thousand dollars worth of jewelry was reported missing from a home in the 4400 block of Main Street on Jan. 28.

High-end bike stolen

A bicycle valued at $5,000 was reported stolen from a home in the 8300 block of Springfield Avenue on Jan. 29.

Missing coins

About $70 worth of coins were reported stolen from a home in the 9200 block of Drake Avenue on Jan. 29. The homeowners told police that they left their doors unlocked, the report stated.

Stolen auto

A car parked in the 8600 block of Lawndale Avenue was reported stolen on Jan. 28. The vehicle also contained an instrument and cash with a combined value of $160, police said.

A car parked in the 3300 block of Church Street was reported stolen on Jan. 29. The owner told police that she was "warming up" her car and left it unattended, the report stated.

Theft at DSW

Several purses valued at $200 each were reported stolen from a DSW in the 9600 block of Skokie Boulevard on Jan. 29.

Stolen phone

A man reported his smartphone stolen after visiting a bank in the 5200 block of Dempster Street on Jan. 29.

Possession of marijuana

A 21-year-old was charged with possession of cannabis on Jan. 28. The Chicago resident was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt and having expired license plates. 

 

Home burglary

About $2,000 in cash and two laptops were reported stolen from a home in the 7800 block of Lowell Avenue on Jan. 21. According to the report, forced entry was made through a back door.

DUI

Prudencio Peralta, 35, of Skokie, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan. 26. Police found Peralta sleeping in his vehicle in the 9100 block of Skokie Boulevard, the report stated. The vehicle was in park and not running, the report added.

The driver had a blood alcohol content level of .210, the report stated.

Peralta was also issued citations for parking on a roadway, no proof of insurance and having no driver’s license.
