Friday Blotter: 'Apple Bong' Seized From Pot-Eating Driver

Apple used as pot bong

Christian Steward Monrrigo, 22, of the 9300 block of East Prairie Road, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs on May 25 around 1 a.m. According to the report, Monrrigo's vehicle was stopped in the 3900 block of Golf Road for speeding.

Police later discovered an apple with marijuana residue inside--something Monrrigo called an “apple bong.” He also told officers that he ate some marijuana in his possession because he did not want to get in trouble. His court date is July 7.

Domestic violence

Michael Bloom, 22, of the 7900 block of Caldwell Avenue in Niles, was charged with violating an order of protection and unlawful use of a weapon on May 24 around 4 a.m. According to the report, Bloom got into an argument with his former girlfriend, who had an order of protection placed against him several months earlier.

After apprehending Bloom, police later discovered a knife that was concealed to look like a pen. His court date is June 6.

DUI arrest

Brian Rabinak, 24, of the 3200 block of Central Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and not wearing a seatbelt on May 24 around 12 a.m. According to the report, Rabinak's vehicle was stopped near the 4900 block of Dempster Street after police spotted the driver traveling without a seatbelt.

Police reported they were about 25 feet away from the car and still detected a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle. Rabinak would later fail the field sobriety test and refused to provide a breath sample. His court date is June 29.

Passed out drunk in vehicle

Josue Solis-Delgado, 21, of the 12000 block of Hawks Bills Avenue in Plainfield, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on May 25 around 4 a.m.

Police found Delgado passed out and slumped over the steering wheel near the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Old Orchard Road. The vehicle was idle in the left turn lane.

Because he had foam on his mouth, police initially thought Delgado was having a seizure. Delgado later admitted that he had been drinking and registered a blood alcohol content level of .179. His court date is July 11.
