Friday Blotter: Cash Scam Nearly Hooks Elderly Man

Stolen flowerpot

Police responded to a theft in the 5000 block of Main Street on Sept. 10. According to the report, a flowerpot valued at $15 was stolen outside the residence. 

Theft from motor vehicle

A car parked in the 9300 block of Terminal Avenue was reported burglarized on Sept. 10. According to the report, a GPS device was taken from the vehicle after the driver’s side window was smashed with a brick.

A car parked in the 5100 block of Main Street had its license plate stole on Sept. 10.

Car looted

An unlocked car parked in the 5100 block of Elm Street was reported burglarized on Sept. 3. According to the report, three GPS devices and two laptops were taken from the vehicle. The combined value of the items was more than $4,000, according to the report.

Man almost fell for scam

A man came into the police station to report a deceptive practice on Sept. 7. According to the report, the victim received a phone call from a man who identified himself as the man's grandson. The suspect said he was involved in an accident and sustained a broken nose. He also added that he needed $3,150 to pay a lawyer.

The elderly man then went to a Western Union to send the money when a relative informed him that this was a scam.
