Friday Blotter: Gang Graffiti, Bizarre Best Buy Break-In and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.

Cell Phone Stolen at Library
A black Samsung Glaaxy Indulge cell phone was taken from the Skokie Public Library on May 24 at 4:53 p.m. The owner accidentally left the phone on a bench inside the library when she went outside to sit on the grass. After reviewing security tapes, authorities discovered a black male, roughly 12 to 18 years old and weighing 100 to 140 pounds, grab the phone and conceal it in his pant pocket.

Attempted Burglary
An employee for a business in the 3300 block of Main Street reported an attempted burglary on May 15 at 2:33 a.m. The security alarm was activated and the worker noticed a southwest rear window screen had been opened. The employee had left the business at 8 p.m. Nothing was reported missing.

Latin King Graffiti
A building in the 3400 block of Main Street was graffitied around May 25 at 3:35 a.m. Gang-related symbols were found on the upper portion of a rear metal door on the northside of the business. Authorites believe the black marker drawings were Latin King symbols.

Clear Tarp Fails as Security Blanket
Items were stolen from a residence's lawn in the 8300 block of Kilbourn Avenue between May 27 and May 28. The resident had hosted a garage sale earlier on the 26 and 27, with many items left to sell. She covered the items in her front yard with a transparent tarp.

Burglary Attempt in Residence
A resident in the 7800 block of Lamon Avenue reported that unknown suspect(s) had used force to enter the basement area of the apartment building and pried open five storage units on May 28 around midnight. Nothing was reported missing.

Bizarre Burglary Attempt at Best Buy
A black van smashed into the bay and overhead garage door of Best Buy in the 5400 block of Touhy Avenue on May 27 at 5:57 a.m. in a burglarly attempt. Surveillance tapes reveal a group o fmen wearing dark clothing enter the garage with three plastic garbage cans and then running out eastbound on Carpenter Road. Authorities inspected the cans that were left to find four empty Verizon cell phone boxes and manuals, as well as manual tools used to pry and a hammer. The boxes were empty and an employee said they were not from Best Buy. It appeared that nothing had been taken. In the past two months two Best Buy burglaries had happened with similarly forced entry.
