Friday Blotter: Man Charged With DUI After Crash

DUI charge after crash
Police responded to a two-car collision near Niles Center Road and Howard Street on April 9 around 8 p.m. According to the report, officers made sure both parties had no injuries before they asked for the details of the crash. While speaking to one of the persons involved, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from a driver’s breath.
Ultimately, police charged Joseph Jay Cone, 55, of the 9400 block of Keeler Avenue, with driving under the influence of alcohol. Cone told police he had just come back from a fundraiser and had four glasses of wine.

Police reported that his blood alcohol content level was .152, or almost twice the legal limit. His court date is May 13.

A man came into the Skokie police station to report that his City of Chicago taxi medallion was stolen from the hood of his cab while it was parked in an alley in the 4800 block of Elm Street on April 19. The medallions are known to cost as much as $20,000.
$3,500 in jewelry taken at gym
A man came into the Skokie police station to report that his Aquamarine watch and two rings were taken from his locker while he worked out at LifeTime Fitness in Skokie on April 19. According to the report, the watch had diamonds around the face and was valued at $1,500, while the rings had a combined value of about $2,000. The owner told police he realized that he left his belongings on top of the locker and when he returned, the items were gone.
