Worthless bike stolen
A bike valued at $10 was reported stolen from the common area of an apartment building in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue on July 13. According to the report, the victim left the bike unlocked because he did not think anyone would steal it.

Samantha Lee Scott, 18, of the 2600 block of Cherry Lane in Northbrook, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on July 13. According to the report, Scott allegedly concealed $148.48 worth of merchandise while she was in the fitting room at Macy’s in Old Orchard Mall. Scott then proceeded to exit the store without paying for the items.
Store security caught up with Scott and found several pieces of clothing inside her purse after she left the store. She told police she took the items because she liked the style and that they didn’t have any sensors on them.

Button pusher robs register
Police responded to a theft in the 4500 block of Oakton Street on July 13 around 7:30 p.m. According to the report, police saw video footage that showed a man trying to open a store’s register by pushing random buttons on the machine. The suspect was performing the alleged act while the store clerk was in the back of the store with a cook, according to the report.
The man was ultimately successful in opening the cash register, taking more than $250 in cash. Police are investigating.
