Friday Blotter: $3,700 Panty Theft; Stolen Mercedes

Smoking pot at school alleged

On Aug. 28 at 2:45 p.m., officers responded to Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton St., about a student allegedly smoking marijuana. According to the report, the school's activities director was in the women's restroom when a student dropped a "multicolored glass smoking pipe on the floor." The student later admitted that the pipe was used to smoke marijuana.

Savings in tube sock stolen

On Sept. 8 at 11:38 a.m., police responded to a residential burglary in the 9000 block of Keating Avenue. According to the report, a Sony Vaio computer and $2,000 stashed in a grey tube sock were stolen. Police are conducting an investigation.

Mercedes stolen

A black 2006 Mercedes CLS 55 was stolen from the parking lot of Kerasotes theater at Village Crossing on Sept. 10 at 2 a.m. The car is valued between $34,000 and $43,000.

$3,700 panty theft

More than $3,700 worth of panties was stolen on Sept. 9 from Victoria Secrets in Old Orchard Mall. According to the report, a black couple dumped the panties into a white Macy's bag about 7:50 p.m. and fled the scene. The store manager estimates they took more than 325 Lacy Thongs from the store.

 DUI arrests

Devane Retreage, 26, of the 700 block of Wesley Avenue in Evanston, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sept. 9 about 12:30 a.m. Retreage refused to take a Breathalyzer or sobriety test, but showed obvious signs of impairment, according to the report. At one point, he called 911 on the officers, claiming they were racially profiling him. Police also searched his vehicle and found several knives, including a butcher knife, and a BB gun.

Charles Connor, 29, of the 400 block of Callan Street in Evanston, was arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana on Sept. 2 about 3 a.m. According to the report, Connor was pulled over for a traffic violation and admitted to smoking "two blunts" of marijuana. His court date is Oct. 18.
