Friday Blotter: Sex Offense, Asleep at the Wheel

Drunken minor confesses

Police were on routine patrol on Feb. 17 in the 5300 block of Touhy Avenue when they noticed a vehicle almost hit a teen who was erratically crossing the street. The teen--Joseph Flores, 18, of Chicago--told officers that he had been drinking and had a warrant out for his arrest.

After verifying the information, police charged Flores with one count of consumption of alcohol by a minor after they found a bottle of Jagermeister in his possession.

Drug paraphernalia arrests

Police charged Michael Bloom, 22, of the 7900 block of Caldwell Avenue, and Karishma Brahmbhatt, 20, of the 3600 block of Salem Drive in Northbrook, with possession of drug paraphernalia on Feb. 17 around 4:30 a.m.

Police stopped Bloom as he drove in the 5500 block of Oakton Street. Bloom told police that he had a wooden pipe with marijuana residue in it, and Brahmbhatt told police she had a glass-smoking pipe. Their court hearings are March 23.

Theft from motor vehicle

A man came into the Skokie police station to report that his factory-installed radio was stolen from his parked vehicle in the 9700 block of Lowell Avenue on Feb. 18. The victim said his vehicle was locked, but did not observe any signs of force entry.

Sex offense 

Police were dispatched to the 8500 block of Kimball Avenue regarding a sex offense on Feb. 18. According to the report, two area residents were walking their dog when they saw a male masturbating behind a garage in an alley. They wanted to alert authorities to the incident. Police knocked on the door where the offense occurred but got no reply.

Asleep at wheel in DUI stop

Police charged Blandamir Delgado, 37, of the 7200 block of Claremont Street in Chicago, with driving under the influence of alcohol on Feb. 18 around 8 p.m. According to the report, Delgado was stopped because he was asleep at the wheel near the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Dempster Street.

When police knocked on his window, Delgado drove a short distance northbound on Crawford Avenue before he stopped for a squad car with its emergency lights activated. His blood alcohol content level recorded at .153.

Delgado was also charged with disobeying a traffic light, driving without a license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and obstructing traffic. His court hearing is March 14.

DUI arrest

Margarito Caneda, 33, of the 1600 block of Keystone Avenue, was stopped by police after his vehicle was seen swerving erratically in the 4900 block of Oakton Street on Feb. 18 around midnight. Caneda recorded a blood alcohol content level of .218 and was charged with driving under the influence. His court hearing is March 1.
