Friday Blotter: Sleeping at Wheel Leads to Crash, DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.

Crashing DUI

Jose Angel Morales, 52, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 8. Morales had a blood alcohol content level of .202, the report said.

Morales is alleged to have crashed into a parked semi in the Federal Mogul parking lot, 7450 McCormick Blvd. There was a passenger inside the truck during the crash, but he was not injured. That person would later tell police that he found Morales sleeping at the wheel after being hit, the report stated.

Cracked window

A man reported that an unknown person cracked the driver’s side window of his sedan in the 4600 block of Madison Street on Oct. 8.

Paintball explosion theft

Two men entered Paintball Explosion, 4866 Dempster St., and grabbed two paintball guns and several pieces of gear before fleeing toward the Skokie Swift on Oct. 6. The total value of said items was around $630, the report stated.

Power tools stolen

Several power tools with a combined value of about $430 were reported stolen from a garage in the 5100 block of Fairview on Sept. 28. There was also about $50 in cash stolen from a metal tray.

Theft

Charles Altmaier, 59, was charged with retail theft after he stole several sliced meats from Jewel, 9449 Skokie Blvd., on Oct. 6.
