Man Found Not Guilty/Insane For Killing Daughter, Granddaughter

The Skokie man was charged with first degree murder for the brutal killings in 2011.

Miguel Renteria, 41, of Skokie, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2011 stabbings of his daughter and 2-year-old granddaughter, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Expert witnesses testified that Renteria suffered at the time from schizophrenia and said he heard voices telling him the two were possessed by the devil and he needed to kill them to save their souls, according to the newspaper.

Renteria will next have a mental health evaluation by the Cook County Department of Human Services, the Tribune said.
