A man robbed a hair salon at Fashion Square Shopping Mall in Skokie on Dec. 27. The suspect made off with $110 after posing to buy a bottle of shampoo.

A hair salon worker was greeted with an unexpected transaction on Dec. 27, one police believe might be related to several similar incidents.

Police responded to a robbery at Hair Cuttery at Fashion Square Shopping Mall, 9442 Skokie Blvd., on Dec. 27 around 10:34 a.m. According to the report, a man walked into the hair salon while two employees were working; one was shampooing a customer’s hair while the other was up front at the register. The suspect then approached the cashier with a bottle of shampoo he was pretending to purchase, according to the report.

After exchanging a few words with the cashier, the man pulled out a black revolver from his backpack and said, “Give me the money,” the report stated. The worker then became “flustered” and walked away from the register. She then informed her coworker about the situation. That worker said, “Well, give him the money.”

The cashier ultimately gave the suspect a $110 before he fled the store.

Police said they believe the same suspect has committed similar robberies in Bensenville, Lombard, Niles, Glen Ellyn and possibly Chicago. The culprit typically strikes early in the morning or late in the evening. In all cases, however, the offender chose a hair salon in a strip mall.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6-feet-tall, 200 to 230-pounds and being anywhere from 35 to 45-years-of-age, police said.

At this time, no arrests have been made.
