Monday Blotter: Alarm Disabled in Break-in, Crying Baby Spurs Dispute

BB gun vandalism continues

A sedan had its driver’s side window smashed open in the 8200 block of Monticello Avenue on Feb. 22. Police determined that a BB gun was fired to break the window. A  near Jarvis and Touhy avenues.

Another vehicle had its window smashed with a BB gun pellet in the 4100 block of Emerson Street on Feb. 22. According to the report, “similar incidents occurred in the same area during the same time frame.”

Criminal damage

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant at Old Orchard Mall on Feb. 17 around 2:30 p.m. According to the report, a woman told police that she noticed a parked vehicle had its driver’s side window smashed. Police attempted but failed to contact the vehicle's owner.

Alarm disabled, home ransacked

Police responded to a residential burglary in the 7900 block of Tripp Street on Feb. 22 around 8 p.m. According to the report, several wires were cut outside the home to help gain entry. Once inside, the security system was disabled and the upstairs bedrooms were ransacked. The occupant told police that a White Sox baseball was the only item determined missing.

Dealership reports stolen auto

A minivan was stolen from the parking lot of Sherman Dodge, 7601 Skokie Blvd., between Feb. 1 and 17. According to the report, staff at auto dealership said it does not know what happened to the vehicle.

Garage burglary

Several power tools and handmade telescopes were stolen from a detached garage in the 5000 block of Estes Street on Feb. 21. According to the report, a door was pried open to gain entry.

Crying baby spurs dispute

A woman dining at Chili’s in Village Crossing was attacked by a couple on Feb. 23. According to the report, the couple had a baby who was crying for more than 90 minutes, and they saw that the woman was annoyed about the situation.

The report states that when the couple left, they told the victim "to mind her own business." To which the victim replied, “You’re leaving? Good the restaurant will be happy now." One of the suspects then grabbed an alcoholic beverage, dumped it on the victim and fled the restaurant.

DUI arrests

Pedro E. Marrero, 70, of the 10000 block of Beverly Drive, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Feb. 23 around 6:30 p.m. He had a blood alcohol content level of .163.

Carlos Espinoza-Chavez, 42, of Indiana, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Feb. 25. Chavez was stopped near McCromick Boulevard and Dempster Street for a traffic violation. He had a blood alcohol content level of .126.
