Monday Blotter: ATM Skimming; Burglary

ATM skimming

A man came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 11 around 1 p.m. According to the report, $503 was withdrawn from his personal checking account without his knowledge. The victim was also in possession of his debit card during the time of the theft.

Attempted shoplifting

Police responded to a delayed theft report at the BP gasoline station, 4511 Golf Rd., on May 11 around 7 p.m. According to the report, four teenagers walked inside of the store and one of them took a candy bar from the shelf and left without paying.

When the clerk confronted the teen, he placed the candy bar back on the shelf and the group left the scene. Police were unable to locate the subjects.

Theft from motor vehicle

A car parked at the Holiday Inn on Touhy Avenue was burglarized on May 11 around 10 p.m. According to the report, a GPS device, an Apple laptop and a leather case were stolen from the vehicle. The driver’s side window was smashed to gain entry.

Residential burglary

A home in the 3700 block of Lee Street was burglarized on May 11. According to the report, brute force was used to gain entry into the residence, and once inside, an IBM laptop was stolen. The victim told police he suspects children who hang out at nearby Shawnee Park of committing the crime.
