Monday Blotter: Bad Check in Alleged Craigslist Scam

Theft from motor vehicle

A car parked just outside of Champp’s restaurant at Old Orchard Mall was burglarized on July 22. According to the report, a DVD-radio player and 41 T-shirts were taken from the vehicle. The items were valued at more than $1,200. The victim told police he left his vehicle unlocked.

A Cadillac Escalade was burglarized while it was parked in the 5000 block of Chase Street on July 15. A digital camera was taken from the vehicle. 

Bad check issued in scam

A man reported being scammed after receiving a generous check from a Craigslist buyer on July 26. According to the report, the victim was selling a bicycle for $150 on the website. He was contacted by a man named “McAllen Tx” who sent him a $1,650.25 check for the bicycle and was instructed to keep $300 for himself and wire the rest back via Western Union.

After sending the money, the victim was contacted by the bank and informed the check was fraudulent. Police are investigating.

Cabbie left without $25 fare

Police responded to a theft of services compliant near Madison and Kilpatrick avenues on July 27. According to the report, the passengers were picked up near the 1300 block of West Pratt Avenue and later fled with paying the cabbie the $25 fare.

DUI arrest

Lorens Nunez, 34, of the 1900 block of Windette Drive in Montgomery, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on July 25 around 12 a.m. Nunez was stopped for a traffic violation near the 8000 block of Bennet Avenue. Police reported that her blood alcohol content level registered .114.
