Monday Blotter: Phone Scam, Burglaries

The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.

Home ransacked

Police responded to a residential burglary in the 8900 block of Samoset Trail on Jan. 13. According to the report, the home had been ransacked and an unknown amount of jewelry was missing. Police believe the suspect(s) gained entry through a rear door.

A witness told police he saw a suspicious two door, older model tan van drive away from the scene following the incident. No arrests were made.

Apartment burglary

Police responded to a burglary in the 8100 block of Kilpatrick Avenue on Jan. 15. According to the report, the suspect(s) used unknown means to gain entry through a rear door. About $1,270 worth of jewelry was reported missing, the report stated.

Jar of change, computers stolen

A jar of change and several computers were reported stolen from a home in the 7400 block of Kildare Avenue on Jan. 15. Police said the suspect(s) forced entry into the home through the family room door.

Residential burglary

About $12,000 in jewelry and electronics were reported stolen from a home in the 8900 block of Bennett Avenue on Jan. 16. According to the report, and a window screen had been removed and the window left open. 

DUI

Jaimie Nett, 48, of the 9200 block of Keating Avenue, was charged with one count of aggravated DUI and also issued six additional citations, including driving on a suspended license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving under the influence of combination alcohol and drugs. 

Plate thefts

A man reported his front license plate stolen from his car parked in the 3800 block of Brummel Street on Jan. 15.

A woman reported her rear license plate stolen from her car parked in the 4700 block of Madison Street on Jan. 14.

Phone scam

A woman reported receiving a call from someone posing as her grandson on Jan. 11. The suspect asked the victim for $700, but the woman would eventually realize that the phone call was a fraud, the report stated. The offender said he was in a car accident but his scheme was foiled when the woman asked personal questions about her family that the suspect couldn’t answer.

No arrests were made.

Theft from auto

A woman reported her iPhone stolen from her vehicle parked outside LA Fitness, 3220 Touhy Ave., on Jan. 9. According to the report, the offender smashed out the victim’s window to gain entry.

Stolen auto

A cable installation van parked in the 5000 block of Crain Street was reported stolen on Jan. 9. Multiple pieces of equipment were also inside the van, the report stated.

Stolen iPhone

An iPhone valued at $600 was reported stolen from a teen at Niles North High School on Jan. 9.

Stolen grill

A man reported his $30 charcoal grill stolen from outside his home in the 4400 block of Howard Street on Jan. 9.

Best Buy theft

Aulston A. Franco, 19, of Mundelein, was charged with retail theft on Jan. 9. According to the report, Franco tried to steal a flash drive and electronic tablet from Best Buy, but was stopped by store security.

Ugh, my Ugg boots are stolen

A woman reported her newly purchased Ugg boots stolen after visiting Macy’s in Old Orchard Mall on Dec. 22.
