Busted for shoplifting

Joshua A. Lettner, 18, of the 1300 block of Central Street in Wilmette, was charged with retail theft on Aug. 13. According to the report, Lettner allegedly stole a pair of $48 shorts from the Abercrombie and Fitch store in Old Orchard Mall. He was caught by store security who later turned him over to Skokie police. Lettner was an employee at the retail-clothing store. 

Deceptive practice

A man came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on Aug. 3. According to the report, the man told police an unauthorized purchase of $137 was made to his credit card at a Walmart in California. The victim told police he had never been to the state. 

Scary call to homeowner

A homeowner in the 4900 block of Kirk Avenue received a disturbing phone call on Aug. 17. According to the report, the woman received a call from an unknown person who told her to walk to her front door. The woman complied and she was then instructed to look behind her by the caller. When the resident did, she saw her window was damaged and a dark silhouette of a person nearby.

The homeowner told police she could not provide a description of the suspect. It was discovered that the phone number was blocked.

Road rage taunt

A man had a blunt object thrown at his vehicle while he was driving southbound near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard on Aug. 18. According to the report, the alleged culprit asked the driver if he wanted to fight, but the driver called 911 instead.
