Monday Blotter: Teen Mugged, Handgun Displayed in Dispute

Offender retrieves gun over dispute

Police responded to an assault complaint at IHOP Restaurant, 9500 Skokie Blvd., on Feb. 13. According to police, two women were arguing over an unknown male subject. One of the offenders then slapped the other woman in the face. The argument then escalated and the offender went to her vehicle to retrieve a knife and handgun to threaten her friend, the report stated. No shots were fired, but the woman fled the scene before police arrival. There were no injuries.

Teen mugged in strong armed robbery

A male teen skateboarding in the 4800 block of Elm Street was attacked by several individuals on Feb. 14 around 9:05 p.m. According to police, the victim was punched in the back of the head by an unknown person. When he turned around, he saw six other offenders standing over him.

He was then pummeled by the group, the report stated. His Nike shoes, skateboard and Apple iPhone were also stolen.

According to police, the offenders were described as the following:

  • Black male, about 5-foot-10, 18 to 20-years-of-age, a muscular build and wearing all black. The subject also had tattoos on his on his neck and arms.
  • Black male, about 5-foot-10, 18 to 20-years-of-age, slim build, wearing all black. The subject also had a beard.
  • Two other offenders were described as male blacks, slim builds and wearing all black.
  • The fifth offender was described as a Hispanic male, husky build and wearing all black.
  • The sixth offender was a Hispanic male, slim build and also wearing all black.

No arrests were made.

Theft from auto

A car parked in the 9600 block of Woods Drive was reported burglarized on Feb. 12. According to police, the driver's side window was used to gain entry. A red backpack and coat were missing from the vehicle.

Cash from tip jar stolen

About $10 in tips were stolen from Subway, 4925 Dempster St., on Feb. 13.

Offender steals from vending machine

Police responded to a theft at the Double Tree Hotel, 9599 Skokie Blvd., on Feb. 13. According to police, an unknown person(s) pried open a Coca-Cola vending machine and removed $113.50.

Stolen wallet

A woman reported her wallet stolen after visiting Corner Bakery in Old Orchard Mall on Feb. 13.

Shopping mall vandalism

Police responded to a criminal damage complaint at Old Orchard Mall on Feb. 13. According to police, three teens were kicking ceramic flower pots on the west side of the mall. No arrests were made.
