Mother Charged with DUI, Endangering Children on NYE

A Chicago woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and engendering the lives of her 10 and 6-year-old children on Dec. 31.

A woman driving with her 10 and 6-year-old children was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of endangering the life of a child, speeding, improper lane usage and failure to secure a child under 8 on Dec. 31 around 2 a.m.

Esmeralda Lopez, 29, of Chicago, was stopped in the 3500 block of Dempster Street for speeding and swerving, according to the police report. Lopez told police that she was coming from Wrigleyville and had four beers. She had a blood alcohol content level of .166, the report stated. After being arrested, police contacted the Department of Child Services. Lopez’s court date is Feb. 7.
