No Plea Deal in Crash that Killed 8-year-old

Hanin Goma, 23, is charged with driving under the influence and causing a May 22 chain reaction crash that killed 8-year-old Carter Vo.

No plea deal was reached in the case against Hanin Goma, the 23-year-old Skokie woman charged with starting a chain reaction crash that killed 8-year-old Carter Vo, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Goma has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death in the May 22 incident that occured near Main Street and St. Louis Avenue.

Police said Goma made a left turn onto Main Street and struck an eastbound van, the Tribune reported. Goma then lost control and ended up on the northeast corner sidewalk, hitting Vo who was riding his bike.

Police said that Goma had amphetamines and marijuana in her system at the time of the crash, according to police.

Prosecutors and Goma's defense attorney had been meeting with the judge in the case, NBC Chicago reported. When Goma chose not to accept a plea bargain Wedensday morning, a Jan. 4 hearing was set.
