Officer Hospitalized by Skokie Teen

A Skokie officer was hospitalized after detaining a "highly intoxicated" teen on Jan. 3, police said.

Jermaine Sheppard, 19, of Skokie, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, obstructing and resisting arrest and consumption of alcohol by a minor on Jan. 3 around 8 a.m.

Police found Sheppard shirtless and dancing near the intersection of Dempster Street and Skokie Boulevard, police said. According to the report, the offender was “highly intoxicated and uncooperative.”

After approaching the suspect, a struggle ensued between the officer and Sheppard, the report stated. That officer received a swollen lip and bruised eye while trying to detain the offender, the report stated. He also suffered a sprained finger.

Police attempted to interview the suspect several times, but he kept falling asleep, the report said. Ultimately, the suspect told police that he drank an entire bottle of vodka and smoked marijuana at a party in Evanston, according to police.
